Argos - Till locked up!

I bought around £17 worth of goods in Argos today. I put my Chip and Pin debit card in and entered my PIN.

Then it hung on "Processing card ... Please do not remove"

Eventually the manager decided it must have locked up so pulled out my card and rebooted the till.

Paid fine on another till, but I now notice my available balace has gone down by around £34!

Will I be charged for both or will one not be debited in the end?

And if it does get charged, will they be able to sort it out?

Looks like you'll be charged twice.

Just take evidence of both charges back to Argos for a refund of one of them.
  • could also be that it just part-authorised, your balance may return to normal
  • I bought from Argos just before Christmas and noticed that the items I added to my order (to ensure I got the gift vouchers) were part of my order anyway, so I cancelled them. They had to refund my card and then charge again, but having looked at my statement, the refund took a day to process so I was charged for BOTH transactions for 24 hours, kick-up a fuss about it, they gave me gift vouchers !!!

Best thing to do is contact your bank and theyll be able to confirm the transactions that have gone through.

  • What happens here - as is common in most electronic transactions - is that the merchant/handling company (usually someone like barclays or HBOS/HSBC etc.) take the money into a holding or suspense account at the start of the transaction :wall: :naughty: and once the overnight processing has taken place this money is not cleared to the store i.e. Argos as the transaction was not finalised.

In short your money should only be taken once and it should not show up as a duplicate transaction on your statement - obviously you need to check this ASAP to confirm. :D

    Hope this makes sense
