Help - Ipod shuffle broke, no receipt, do have gift card no.

I wondered if someone could help. I bought an Ipod shuffle a few weeks ago and I can't seem to get it to work, charge or even link to the computer. I can't find the receipt and used a combination of gift cards and cash to pay. I have found an old receipt with one of the gift card details (ISS no.). My question is can the store use this information as proof of purchase.

Failing this can I buy another shuffle and return the faulty one with the new receipt and get my money back?

Any advice greatly appreciately.

  • You need to remember an exact date you bought the shuffle. Then they can trace the transaction for you.

As Planky says, contact apple. Presumably the shuffle has a serial number on it which will confirm the age of it. Apple will send you a mailer bag to return it for a replacement or repair. Apple are exceptionally good for problems like this.

Buying a new one and returning a broken one to argos is unethical in the extreme.

I think you may have miss understood me. I would tell them it is faulty when I returned it. I bought it from there in the first place so don't think it is unethical at all.

I will try giving Apple a ring as well. Cheers planky.

I will also try Argos as I should be able to pinpoint the date and approx time of purchase. Thanks Colliefrog
  • If it's outside of 30 days the policy would be usually to send it off to Apple anyway for repair - but doing it through Apple directly is much quicker and easier usually, they collect it from you and get it back within a few days.

I'll gladly help with any queries - but if you have any problems and need to get some real guidance, go back to your local store or contact customer services (argos.co.uk).
  • D'ya know how it broke?

I've had mine for a while now, and being a teenager, I'm not terribly careful with my posessions. Mine's been through the washing machine twice and the tumble drier once and still came out like new... I've dropped it down two flights of stairs an infinite number of times and it's still fine. So I'm very curious as to how you managed to break yours.

Perhaps it's the USB connecting it? The wire may have snapped, so your shuffle could've run out of battery, was unable to charge or be connected to the laptop.

I think may well be the USB charger that came with it that it faulty. It was working fine and suddenly stoppped working, I assumed it was the battery that had run out and tried to charge but it doesn't charge and ITunes doesn't recognise it. Whatever the reason I can no longer use it. I will try Argos today and if I get no joy there will try Apple.

    Thanks for all your advice.
  • I had a problem with a faulty memory stick without packaging and receipt, i went to another store and they swapped it for another, took me ages to get through to store on phone. Like you I had used a gift card but because I could pinpoint the day and rough time I think this helped. Good luck

  • To reset iPod shuffle:
    1. Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
    2. Move the switch on the back of iPod shuffle to the off position.
Tip: When iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible.

    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Move the switch on the back to the play in order or the shuffle position. The green stripe will be visible in either position.
iPod shuffle is now reset. If after resetting iPod shuffle you are going to attach it to your computer, be sure to place the switch in the off position. If you were resetting as part of some troubleshooting steps, continue with those steps now. For general troubleshooting steps see the iPod shuffle troubleshooting and service FAQ.

    Cheers for all your advice.

I contacted Apple and they have sent out a replacement, it arrived yesterday with a a prepaid bag for the return of the faulty one. The new one is working fine. The old one still as dead as a dodo.

Thanks again and thanks to Apple for great service.:j
