Tungsten Carbide wedding bands

Hello all MoneySavers.

Me and my OH are getting married this summer. As we're trying to get as many things sorted out as soon as possible (I didn't expect that it was this much work...), I was wondering if someone can help me in regards to wedding bands.

Having done some research, I have found some Tungsten Carbide wedding bands at really reasonable prices that I think look fantastic. I am however a little bit weary to buy something off the web - especially as it is a metal I have not seen in real life, and I have seen what photoshop can do to things.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of a place where they do stock them. I live in London so hope there would be some traders around.

Also, if anyone has any experience of these rings, I'd be grateful for any info.

Thanks

The only Tungsten Carbide I am used to is in drill bits (its very hard). Wouldn't have been a metal I'd associate with making a ring from, nor desire.

There is a bit under "domestic" here:

  • It's a fairly new compound to use in rings and there is a fair amount to read about them on the web. Many online shops do stock them (here's one, searching will provide you with plenty more). I'd just like to see the colours as there seem to be many to chose from, and get a feel for what design would fit my finger best.

The compound is very hard (hence the traditional use in drill bits etc) and is supposedly near enough impossible to scratch.

More info to read on the following sites.

And plenty more out there if you look.

My colleague got his wedding ring from here and recommended them to me:

My h2b has just ordered a tungsten carbide ring from them today.
  • My h2b got his ring from John Greed also, however, he choose titanium, but if it is an on off the shelf product, you can return it, if you dont like it.

I bought my ring from an Australian website, as there wasnt much choice of ladies titanium rings.

I have ought one for my OH. We discovered it by accident then ordered it from an American ebay seller and in all honesty, it is fantastic!! The colour is great, and no one we have shown it to has guessed it wasn't gold as it still has a fair weight to it.

We wanted one that would be tough enough to withstand his work, and tungsten is 10 times harder than Gold and can only be scratched with diamond, so it fits the bill perfectly.

Also a customer of John Greed. The practice wedding ring we got for FH is great.

Very much liking Gilletts as a place for my ring though. Not only do they have a good selection, then even have my size. Thanks Cuthbert!

  • Go for it Milly, I am extremely happy with Gilletts and love my ring.

If they dont have what you want in your size, they will make it.......

..... and you can design your own ring, I was going to choose purple titanium!
  • We're also going to get tungsten rings for our wedding.

Just a word of warning though, with finger or hand injuries where it's imperative the ring is removed, tungsten cannot be cut off like standard ring metals and must be 'cracked off' (smashed, basically) with mole grips or similar. It's worth bearing this in mind if there's a chance of hand or finger damage in your profession (mechanic, firefighter etc).

As an employee at John Greed Design I'd just like to say I hope you're happy with your ring.

We do have a wide range of wedding rings. Some of them are very exotic and some of them are in the £20-£30 bracket. There is certainly nothing wrong with only spending £20 on a wedding ring though!
