I've been burying my head in the sand ......

Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbee debt free wannabe. Confession is always a good start, so here goes.....

As of today my debts are bordering on £20k and that doesn't even include my mortgage. I'm wondering how I got here, but sadly I can't blame it on the credit crunch, economy or otherwise. Today I'm admitting it's been my own out of control spending habit that's got me to where I am. I left my job 2 years ago and decided I was going to work for myself. Have had some success but in some ways it was just another outlet for more uncontrolled spending

So, I've made the first start on the road to recovery..... I've signed up for this forum and made my first post. I've just been looking at the bank reclaiming post. It sounds very scary but I'm going to go for it. I've had quite a few charges in the last 2 years and I'm sure I've had others on credit cards and things. So I'm going to be working on it this weekend and have given myself a deadline of a week today to get that first letter off.

I think for the last 2 years, I've been 'living the lifestyle' instead of getting down to the real work so that I will eventually be able to 'live the dream'. So I've made another start today by starting to rearrange my DD's as I had everything coming out more or less on the same day and then I'll be changing them over to SO's so that I can control things from my end and then I'll be doing the moneysavingexpert budget planner.

I have to stop writing now as I have a headache and a horrible sick feeling in my stomach, but maybe that's just the thought of tackling what's ahead of me. It's all got way out of hand but thankfully TODAY is the day it finally stops.

I'll be back when I feel better:cry:

Well done for making the first step and posting - that's the hardest. You can get through this, and there are many wonderful people in this forum to help you along the way. The next thing for you to do now is to post a SOA (statement of affairs) so that people can see where you can cut back on spending etc.

Here is the link to the SOA calculator: http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

Fill it in and post the results and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Well done. We were all ostriches once. Good luck, and don't forget there are charities out there like CCCS, Payplan etc who will give free advice on debt issues.
