Debt Problems self employed

Hi
I am new to this site, so please excuse me,
Both myself and my husband are self employed, I work on commission only and my husband is in the building trade.
We are earning nothing at present and my husband has not worked since early December, We have both been applying for jobs but no luck at the moment.
We are not in arrears to anyone but are robbing from peter to pay paul each month(credit cards)
I spoke with The National Debtline and they sent me a booklet etc out.
I have contacted my mortgage lender( we ahve a 5 yr fixed until Nov 2011) to see if they will allow me to go on interest only for the time being, they are 'looking at this'.
I have tried to fill in a budget sheet, but as I have no income coming in I cant offer my creditors anything, what would be the best thing to do? should I send them the ammount we earned in the last 12 months to get an idea from.
My cousin is on benefits and because she has 'income guaranteed' she can fill the forms in. It is really getting me down now and I dont know where else to turn, can you help me.

Hello and welcome - you will get loads of expert advice on here!
The first thing to do is to fill in and post an SOA - Statement of Affairs - so that people know exactly what your financial situation is. They will then be able to offer help and advice as to what to do both short and long term to deal with the problems.
The SOA format and calculator can be found at the following link:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=107280
Make yourself a cup of tea (or somehting stronger!), gather up all your bills and finacnial information, and fill this in as far as you can, then post the results on this forum.
Good luck - you are in the right place for help and support!0 -
Hi Deebs,
Not a lot l can offer, only moral support as l know how you feel my OH is in the building trade so know what you're going through. l have always kept in contact with our mortgage company and they have been fab, we got in arrears although only one month and they sort of left it to me to say how much extra a month l could afford.l think as long as you keep them in the picture they're ok.The ones we have trouble with are CC companies and at first l would pay them to shut them up but since getting support from this site l've realised that the basics are the most important ,ie mortgage, elec, gas and council tax.Do you get WFTC? as being self employed we didnt think we qualified but a couple of years ago l enquired and realised we were entitled to about £800 per month, (had 4 children all in education then!)we missed out on a couple of years worth. So its worth asking, pride stopped us in the begining!
