bathroom installation - is this protected by the law?

Sorry for the longwinded post!
We had a bathroom suite fitted at the start of January where we supplied the suite and it was fitted by a local company. When we got the quote we were verbally told that that all pipework and wastes connecting up the suites will be covered with 1 year warranty. There’s two guys i’ve been dealing with at the installers, one that provided the quote (1) and the other that is his boss and provides the work to plumbers (2). The week after the installation we found two leaks on the taps and they promptly sorted it. However, a couple of days ago we just found there is a small leak on the waste pipe of the bath tub. I phoned (2) yesterday and told him there’s a leak but he says i’ll be charged getting it fixed. I told him that I was told there was a 1 year warranty provided for the installation. He says he’s not aware of it and will check with (1) and call me back. This was yesterday so I phoned (1) today and asked what the situation was with the warranty and that i would like to have this in writing. He says that all plumbing work is protected with 1 year warranty by the law (he quoted the sales of goods act?) and that they never write any forms of guarantee out. But if the leak was due to poor installation of faulty pipework they supplied then it will be fixed free of charge.
I’m just wondering if its true about the protection is provided by the law? They have not been paid yet, so I’d rather find out if this was the true in case I run in to problems a few months down the line.
