Pension Forecast - Take marriage cert to JobCentre?

Having found on here how to get a State Pension forecast :T I've just got one online today.

It says though 'the date (of your last marriage) is different to the one we hold on our records. So that we can correct this please take your marriage ... certificate to your nearest Jobcentre Plus office'.

I haven't been into a Job Centre on a personal basis for years. Never thought of adding it to my 'after wedding to do list'. Does anyone know if this is necessary? Job Centres involve appointments and queues and quite a bit of time I believe and I work so have very little spare during their opening hours!

Alternatively you could post it direct to the pension people. They may accept a certified copy.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

That of course depends on where you got married. I have my original Australian wedding certificate.

This is actually an improvement, since they used to (or still do) make you send your copy in the post to them and I always worry about putting my precious documents in the mail. It really depends on how much you want an accurate record for your own information; if you don't take it in now, you will have to at some point in the future in any case.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will have to do it at some point then but its not urgent. Mind you I got married over 2 years ago so I'm sure another week or 2 won't matter :D

Presumably the same thing counts for my husband and its the same certificate so we would be better going in together?

They will only accept the original but they say that in relation to photocopies so I presume they mean the original certified copy.

  • Yes they mean an 'original' certified copy, not a photocopy.
