  • Also i believe that job seekers should be required to do community service as a part of their benefit - maybe an hour a week after they have been claiming for a month, increasing for each further month they claim... Then it makes it less - money for nothing

I know plenty who would agree with you, but would prefer it to be 36 hours a week and for the council to call it a job, with all the normal benefits of employment. ;)

It would be great if it was just exceptional circumstances that kept people unemployed for over 6 months, but t isn't. As hard as it is to believe there really are no permanent jobs in large parts of the UK.

Anyway neither of us is helping the OP! :)

I lost my job as a plasterer 3 weeks ago and went to claim Job seekers allowance today. I came home fuming!
I was told because my wife has a busary as a student Nurse that will effect my claim and I will only recieve a small percentage of it!
ontop of this I cannot claim mortgage help for 13 weeks! 13 weeks? I would have lost my house by then!

So I have to live on 120 quid bursary, feed two kids, pay mortgage and bills?
    great country we live in!

And to top it of the women talked to me like I was a Long term unemployed deadleg.

    Fu**ing Joke!

13 weeks is nothing....it was 39 weeks....the idea is that when people take out a mortgage they take out a mortgage protection policy for this eventuality:confused:

Very costly if not applicable if you are self-employed, I know
bigredhen is right. When I first signed on I was told that I would not be able to get help with my mortgage for the first nine months, then something changed and now I get £122 a week paid to my lenders after being off work for 13 weeks. Criky just looked at my origional post, I said I had no work for 2 months, it's actually 3!!
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • ven WITH mortgage protection payable after 30 days it takes forever, i been unemployed 11 weeks (first time ever) and insurance just made first payment (1MTH) for PPI.
