Self Assessment On-line access code not arrived

Hello

just wondered if anyone else has not received their access code to file online? My husband and I both phoned on 2nd January and my code arrived couple of days later. My husband's never turned up and has now requested one 3 times!! Each time he waited the requisite 10 days and not one has arrived. He was given extension to file by 10 February but the code never showed up and now that date has passed. I guess he will get a fine but obviously there is no way we are paying it as not our fault. He's even checked the address with them and it's right. Anyway, they are sending other correspondence to him at this address.

has anyone else had any trouble? So frustrated now, he is just writing a letter to say until such time as they can send him a code, his return can not be filed. Maybe that will have more effect. What's going on? How hard can it be?

This happened to me and they still charged and insisted I pay their £100 late penalty.
  • File the tax return by paper and appeal against the penalty when it arrives.

Thanks Chris - will do that then as long as they accept it.

Did you pay it? There's no way I'm paying - they can drag us to court. I know it looks weird (from their point of view) but it's the truth. We've got it all in rough on a paper copy - we just want to file the wretched thing. Would have sent paper one in (as Chris suggested) but assumed this was not allowed after 30 September. Still, at least we can then say we have done it.

    Cheers
  • The very same thing happened to me. I requested my UTR from my local tax office back in December and wrote 3 letters. I eventually got someone to send me it once I spoke to them. I registered before 31 Jan and they said that the Access Code would be sent out and I would receive an extension to 10 Feb to file online. The access code has still note arrived. I have spoken to them again and they are sending one out to me. I was advised that the penalty notices are issued automatically but that I should appeal against it in the circumstances. Will wait and see

Yes I did pay it because they were adding interest and whilst I said I disagreed with the charge, they refused to cancel

Why do so many leave the returns so late. Surely leaving so close to the wire is asking for trouble if there is a problem ??
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
