Help
I currently work part time for the NHS and was asked if I could possibly work overtime as they short staffed and busy. I agreed to this as they informed me that it would be paid overtime and at no less than time and half.
I worked 7 hours and the end of January and 13 1/2 hours w/c 2 February. I was asked before I worked extra in February if I wanted to put the hours altogether as January hours would get paid February and February paid March. I asked to paid January in February and February in March as I needed the money. Hope this makes sense up to now.
Well today I have been informed that I as am part time I will not be getting paid time and half as I have to work up to full time before I get time and half. But if I was full time I would automatically get time and half. How unfar is this. I am sure this is discrimination. My boss has apolgoised for making the mistake and thought it was correct. I agreed to this as in the past if they have asked me to work I agreed to take the time in leiu which this time they didn't want because of the staff shortages.
Has anyone else come across this! I feel so angry and disappointed. I now may have to either get paid at normal rate or hopefully take the time in leiu which I would like to think they will carry to the new finanical year because I have already got time booked off due to coming back from maternity leave.
Sure this is discrimination because I work part time

This is correct (assuming an AfC contract).Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Its true, i work for the NHS aswell. If I do any extras as are needed sometimes I always take the time of in leiu. Doesnt seem fair but hey-ho!Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0

seems common
think the rational is you would make more on a 40 hr week than a FT contract0 -
I work part-time and yes we have this in place as well. So it must be across the board, you will only get time and half once you have done the full time hours then more than that will be at time and a half. Sorry.0

This is so unfair. You work extra to help the department but don't get treated the same. Part time staff are more able to help out ie: working extra day rather than full time staff working longer hours in a day. Doesn't make sense!!
Looks like no more extra working for me then and now when should I have some time off as don't think manager will want me to take time in leiu as this will defeat why I am working extra (staff shortages and workload)0 -
Only agreed to work and get paid as it was said it was time and half (needed the money). In the past I have worked extra but taken time off another time as that suited me because of childcare arrangements.0

i think that if it was overtime rate for part timers everybody would work part time and then do overtime thus costing the nhs/company hugely more in wages.
in all the jobs i have worked overtime is only payable at the higher rate once you have worked the same number of hours as a full time member of staff.
as you say know you know the rules you wont do the overtime.
no worries.0
