Cooking the plank

Hello, I'm sure someone has already asked this so apologies. I was watching 'Come dine with me tonight' usual ya da ya da but one thing caught me. The lady cooked her steaks on a big piece of wood. I am dying to know how this works - anyone know? Do you put it in the oven? How do you 'season' the wood? (images of burning the house down here).

I've got a plank that a friend brought back from Canada for me - unfortunately they must have bigger ovens over there, as it doesn't fit into mine and as a result I've never used it  I'm sorely tempted to get DH to saw a bit off so we can use it

Hope someone else has an answer for you!0 -
Hi mouseymousey,
If you have a look at google there are lots of links with explanations of how it works but this one explains it quite well: Fish on a plank

Just a quick note that the Firsh on a plank link is an American one and when they refer to putting on the grill they are talking about a BBQ grill! HTH:beer:When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0
