Does Anyone have Vitamix, is it worth the money?

? this thread is 2 years old!
But anyway... Having never tried a vitamix I can only go by their reputation which is that they're not as good as a thermomix ;p
I do have a thermomix and it's bloody fantastic, just as it should be for the price (>£800 now I think), but it does everything bar deepfat frying and baking. It weighs, chops, grinds, cooks, stirs, times, steams etc. Brilliant if like me you're a bit wobbly physically and have cotton wool for concentration.
P.S. No, it's not just another gadget, if it were I'd still be using my foodprocessor, slowcooker, bamix, hand thingy with whisks on the name of which I can't remember, scales, steamer etc. but they haven't been used since it arrived - and my pans have had a restful period as well. About the only thing I can't do in it is scrambled egg.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Daska I used to have a Thermomix (the old model which 'only' heated and whizzed) I have looked at the new ones but they are always beyond a sensible price (even if you saved up forever) though they do seem to do many more things now, and I can see would be really wonderful if you're a bit wobbly. Am sure someone will go on about the price on here, any minute now. But I just wanted to say that I'd have a Thermomix like a shot if I could. Though when mine 'died' I couldn't find anyone - not even the manufacturers - who could repair it0

How unlucky, there are ones that are 40 years old that are still going. I took a huge risk and got mine second hand on ebay for substantially less than the new price and it has been invaluable at getting us off the non-stop pasta diet. The problem, as you say, is finding that many pennies to start with, I was lucky to be able to do that and I spent a windfall before I had a chance to rationalise for too long (TMs on ebay are almost as rare as rocking horse poo so I jumped) and put it towards something 'sensible' - and in hindsight it was the right decision, I think it is worth every penny.Eat food. I have to agree with you about Thermomix. A lot of money to start with but it really does start to pay for itself from first use. You really can use it to make so many things. Sandwiches for lunch are a thing of the past. I made tomato and basil soup yesterday which took 10 mins, all done whilst I was on the phone. Mushroom risotto the day before took 15 mins and I wasn't even in the kitchen during that time. Home made bread rolls with flour I'd milled took 2 mins to make, 1 hour to rise and 10 mins in the oven. The most challenging part is pressing the buttons.
When i got my Thermomix, I got rid of my Blendtec (rival to Vitamix but better IMO as digital) which I really loved but there is no comparison for anything when compared to a Thermomix. Apparently, 1 in 4 homes has one in Australia and they are even more popular in Spain and Germany. They are simply amazing.TL0 -
Thermomix
Thanks so much to the posters here, I have been seriously considering one of these machines as I was determind not to be seduced by the demo and sign up straight away but I have wanted to do away with loads of different gadgets for a while and really want to know if the machine is as good as the claims.
In addition to the reviews here, are there any other mse's out there who have an opinion please?
Thanks in advance0
