Jewellery Repair - Help Help Help

My bf brought me a diamond engagement & wedding ring from Dubai, when we were on holiday out there last Sept. He spent alot of money on them.

Any way we have just only took the rings to get them valuated in Southampton. We were waiting to hear back as it will take up to 2 weeks. The lady who filled out the paperwork to get the rings valuated has said that the diamonds are very loose and has not been set correctly. And she advised me that it is very dangerous to wear the rings as the diamonds could fall out. And that they can do repairs at the shop.

Anyway the valuer has phone and said that they cannot repair the rings and advise us to take back to where we brought it. Which is a big problem! He still will valuate the rings though, on the 23rd when he is back from holiday.
What shall I do? Its a bit too far to go back to Dubai and I don't trust to send there. Are there any reptable shops around Southampton/Portsmouth area who may repair them? Or will I have to travel to London/Birmingham.
Unhappy chick at the moment

  • Do you have any independent jewellers locally? I know of a couple in Coventry who also do jewllery repair, so it might be worth asking. I don't know how easy it would be to find the name of a shop in Birmingham or London, speak to them and maybe send the rings recorded delivery? Again, some local jewellers may deal with Brum/London traders and be willing to act as middleman, that would only add to the cost though and I'd worry in case they tried to shirk responsibility if the rings went astray.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)
