Return of tv to Comet

Options
I purchased a lcd tv/dvd player from Comet 10 days ago, and during this time it has gone faulty on two occasions.(it has 12 month manufacturers warranty) I took it into the shop for an exchange or refund, but the customer services desk said that they have to see the problem happening in store. But because it wasnt happening in the store they have send it away so it could be left on for 24hrs to see if the problem occurs again.. Im just wondering if i am intitled to a refund or exchange if it comes back that there is nothing wrong with the tv? because i have got a feeling it will. Its just so i know what to say to them when i go back in.
Cheers!

  • My Experience of Comet is somewhat horrific and dates back to the mid 70's when I prepaid for a Trio record deck and when it arrived at the store, pressure was put on me to sign for it before opening the re-wrapped packaging. Of course I didn't and insisted on inspecting the item. When opened, there was a major breakage and the manager lost his temper, shouting at me to get out of the store. I complained about the treatment I'd received to their head office. They investigated and wrote to me stating that no such event had taken place. I went back to the store and the moment the manager saw me, once again shouted at me that I was banned. So now I tell my story until I receive an apology and at least £100,000 in compensation.

Of course I'd like nothing better than for everyone not to shop there but it would be a farce to suggest such bad experiences are a regular occurrence.

For this TV, should it be returned with no fault found, I'd suggest you prepare a letter that you can take with you when you expect to call in for the results, stating that you will have independent tests done on the TV and if these determine that there is a fault, you will seek full compensation from Comet for such tests TOGETHER with a full refund for the TV, PLUS any additional expenses involved with having such tests done (parking, petrol, etc). You'll probably be told that Comet "doesn't do that sort of thing" but you can tell them that it's because of their policies that you have to do that - unless they give you a refund or have you take them to the small claims court.

Keep your head and don't get emotional. You'll get what you deserve in the end. Good luck.
