Birthday Cake!

Hi all, I have come up with a crazy idea that i will make my mothers 40th Birthday Cake. I have today ordered a cake topper from ebay.

I was thinking of doing icing to match the colour of the topper, can i make this myself or do I have to buy it?

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Cath

    Hi Cathchat,

That will make a lovely cake. I've not decorated in years so no idea what is available these days but in the past I normally made up my own colours. A book from the library on cakecraft would give you the details if you don't get the right kinds of responses here.

    Hi Cath

You can either buy some food colour and colour your own icing - just remember a little goes a long way. Alternatively you could buy some ready coloured. I did a quick search and found this web site http://www.mbsc.co.uk/about.html. Their prices start at £2.50 for 500g, but not sure on postage. You could also search on Ebay for Regalice, cheaper, but not such a wide range of colours.

They sound like a nice company. I would email and tell the what you want to do and ask could you buy some colouring off them that would match the toppers.
Be careful when using colouring, start with only a tiny bit and build the colour up as it can be very bright.
