Where have I said any of those things?

You didn't need to say them. I didn't say you said them, just pointed out the general attitude. TBH it just sounded like a smug remark but I apologise if I'm wrong and spoke out of turn.

It was one line of text that you read a whole paragraph into, and it didn't 'sound' like anything, there was no sound, it was all text ;)

However I agree with you about this particular board, and so do not take offense because I could so easily have been one of the people you described.

In reality I am a graduate of the DFW board after building up over £14k of debt after my wife had to give up her job to take care of our disabled daughter. We really missed her income (she was a teacher and so we lost about £24k, which would knock anyone sideways). I didn't moan on about how hard done to I was, I merely did overtime at work, pared our outgoings to the bone and took on a job in a local bar in the evenings.

Once I got rid of all our debt, I went into contracting and joined the MFW, paying down my mortgage quite significantly. I have worked away for about 2 years, seeing my family during vacations and weekends and have reduced our mortgage by £45k. We're now in the financial position where once again I can afford to have a 'normal' job and live at home with my family, without feeling the strain from our single income.

I do feel sorry for people in debt because it is so easy to do, I don't feel sorry for those who can do something about it (as I did) but choose instead to mope and blame everyone else.

All of the above is recorded on my DFW and MFW diaries from when I joined MSE in Feb 2007.

  • I'd support an idea of returning 10% of tax paid over the past year (or years) to boost the economy. But it ain't gonna happen.

I do not support the idea of targetting support to the !!!!less or unemployed.
