reclaiming expenses?!

Hi, im currently employed PAYE as an electrician. After a conversation with my father, he said that i may be entitled to reclaim some expenses which are not payed by my employer. I know i cant claim back money for clothes etc. but my company refuse to pay for my tools, which as you can imagine are expensive. Also i have to use my personal phone for work phonecalls, is this an expense that can be reclaimed?
