Accessing pension fund

Hi all.
Hope this isn't a stupid question but i don't know much about pensions.
I paid into a company pension scheme for a few years until i took redundancy. Due to health problems i won't be working full time again so i can't move the fund that was built up into another company's scheme. But i'm decades away from the retirement age, so i was wondering if it's possible in any way to claim that fund balance now.
There's only a few thousand in the pot, so it's certainly not worth relying on it as a source of income when i reach retirement age, so any other option would be ideal.

If you are seriously long term ill then its possible with some pensions to get access earlier. Apart from that no, you have to wait to age 55.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
