Im not sure if I am reading this right. Are you doing 20 hours of work and expecting to be paid for 40 hours? If so I would say you were very lucky to get away with that before. I think the employer is well within their rights to only pay for the time the employee is at work. My only suggestion would be to ask if your hours could be increased if not start looking around for either another part time job to work along side the one you have or look for full time work. good luckhi,i am wondering if any one can give me some advise as i dont know where to turn.

Speak to ACAS (google them).
Just to clarify, do you mean you are at work but do not have enough work to do during the day, or, are you only going in for the hours you are being paid for.0 -

If you were previously paid for 40 hours a week regardless you whether you worked them in full or not you have been very fortunate. However, you should still have been issued with a new contract confirming your employment conditions with the new company and what your new working hours are. If you are only going to be paid for doing 20 hours work, those hours should be stipulated, and any hours outside those hours should be free for you to do another part time job if you can find one. Your employer cannot expect you to be on the premises for 40 hours hanging around unpaid, and only doing 20 hours work as and when a job comes in. The option is either that he employs you for 40 hours and pays you for 40 hours or he employs you for 20 hours and pays you for 20 hours. As somebody else has suggested, Google ACAS and ask for advice but make sure you get a new written contract defining precisely what your new hours of work and salary will be.0
