I am just wondering that instead of trawling through several posts of freebies is there a chance to put all the links here? I will do a few that i find etc. but want to check its allowed first?

What i'm wondering is whether it would be possible to have sub-categories of freebies such as cinema, dvd, food, beauty, misc and all the restThomas Jefferson: "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."

There already is a Freebies Gold page HERE where all the most popular/recurrent freebies are posted.

This is one of the most popular boards on MSE, with loads of new threads/offers every day. These change/finish frequently, so I can't imagine how putting all the links on the one page would work
What would make this forum more user-friendly is people doing a search before they post what they think is a new freebie, as well as knowing the rules of what should and shouldn't go on this board (all of this is explained perfectly in jo_b's guide at the top of the freebies board).0 -

I thought all the links were here,,, There is no point in doing a search as suggested by Dormouse How many times have we seen post, where is has been pointed out that the freebie has been previously posted, the new poster replies sorry done a search could not find it..
I tried a search for sim card and got,
Search: Key Word(s): card The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: sim
And I know there have been 100’s of sim card post.GONE ENGLAND0 -
i agree. although the search is a good idea and most of us do use it, it can be unreliable and although 50% of us may know what it is we're looking for on the site, the other 50% are looking for deals/freebies that are unknown to them and so they are more likely to simply browse. i do hope that a web designer could take heed and perhaps make the forums easier to browse. i for one have missed threads that would have interested me because they were in forums that i don't use or have any immediate interest in.
thanks to everyone though for all suggestions and threads :TThomas Jefferson: "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."

Hi dobbiesloan,
If you are looking for something on a particular board eg 'freebies' I find it is better to search that particlular board rather than use the advanced search facility.
If a word has fewer than three letters use an asterisk * just before and after the word as this will make it appear longer.
Also when searching it is important to always use lower case letters as using capitals doesn't seem to get results.
For a better explanation look at sra's Unnoficial A-Zunder search (guide)

Although the search facility on MSE is far from great (yes it doesn't like short words for some reasondobbiesloan wrote:There is no point in doing a search as suggested by Dormouse.
), it still is useful. To say that there is no point doing a search is exactly the reason why this board is as cluttered as it is.
I just did a search on Huggies, and it came up with loads of threads, and still we have a new post every day about free Huggies!
Quite honestly, I sometimes doubt whether the posters who say that really did do a search, or whether they did it properly, whether they spelt everything right, etc etc...dobbiesloan wrote:How many times have we seen post, where is has been pointed out that the freebie has been previously posted, the new poster replies sorry done a search could not find it..
My point is, although the search facility does have lots of room for improvement, is still is useful.0 -
Try doing a search for nappy. I got 16 pages full of delightful headers including.Dormouse wrote:I just did a search on Huggies, and it came up with loads of threads, and still we have a new post every day about free Huggies!

Im sure there are lots of nappy post also, but rather than go througt 16 pages it is simpler to post a new thread..GONE ENGLAND0 -
just to clarify, i never suggested for one minute not to use the search button. it is a useful tool if you know what it is you are searching for and what it is you are posting however, as i said, most users are browsers and the use of the search facility is then limited.
i do think it's better to see something and offer ways of improvement to an already fab site.
recommendations may improve the service available to us users and the number of hits gained by the site's makers. everyone's a winner :beer:Thomas Jefferson: "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."

That's exactly my point - do a search properly! Firstly, don't search for something as vague as 'nappy', and secondly, as Pink said above, only search the relevant board, i.e. Freebies.dobbiesloan wrote:Try doing a search for nappy. I got 16 pages full of delightful headers including.
I see there's yet another new Huggies potty training post today...
Here's how it should work. Ooh, I've just found out about a Huggies potty training DVD and I want to share it with others. I search the Freebies board for 'huggies' and it comes up with several threads about this. I think to myself, no need to post this, it's already been done several times.
Result: board guides' time is not wasted looking for duplicates and merging threads; board users' time is not wasted looking at things they've seen before; new offers are not missed due to a cluttered board. Everyone's happy.
Rant over.
