Look on the brightside- He'll naturally bring a wedding present. Maybe give him a copy of your present list if you have one.

How about arranging for a bar meal (if there is a bar). I wouldn't mind arranging this for my photographer, although it's a bit cheeky for them to demand this.
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!
  • Isn't a photographer doing his / her job?

I wonder if my employer would like it if i expected them to provide me with a free lunch every day and I don't earn anything like a photographer does!

This also amazes me with bands at weddings, most of them want a meal and refreshments and thats for 4 people minimum. I'm thinking of sending them to the local town to get a takeaway, i'm ceertainly not paying for them to have the wedding meal (our meal is at 6pm) and saying that the only refreshments I will pay for are non-alcoholic

I do not agree with this at all,

to be offered like ha been said is much nicer that stating it in a contract.
i dont understand why they would want to embarrass themselves saying its in there contract, most people who work, take a packed lunch as they are paid to work what they are paid for not to be catered for !

i would say that i would offer them something to eat ,or get them something if they were around at the meal/buffet as i think that is just good manners.
appreciate what you have got x

    Hi All
I would just like to say that as a Wedding Photographer - I DO NOT expect to get fed!! In fact we (meaning alot of my photographer friends!!) know a videographer who has it in his contract - and think it's terrible!

If I am working at a wedding and am expected to stay longer than the meal, I take a packed lunch or if it has been cold buy my own in the bar. Yes I have been offered by couples but as far as I'm concerned its their day and I'm just the hired help!!

I would be embarressed to state in my contract that I want fed - my husbands employer doesn't feed him.

I don't really want to knock feeding photographers/videographers but that should be offered by choice - not stated in a contract. And certainly not the same sit down meal that you are having yourselves!!!
  • We fed our photographers at our wedding last year. Have a word with your venue, they will normally sort something out for you which isn't so expensive.

Our photographers (husband and wife team) ate the same as us but sat in the room next to where we were all sitting (their choice).

It is only polite to supply food for them even if it is a sarni, especially if they are there from first thing in the morning taking snaps.
  • I've been to 3 weddings in Ireland. All of them were in little villages (so the only wedding happening on that day) and the priest was included in the after celebrations. Had the same meal and even sat at the top table side on but he was there.

some photographers do have this written in their small print in the contract, but i tend not to use them with my business as i think it is ridiculous. Weddings cost enough as it is without having to fork out for 2 more people to eat.

alot of the photographers i deal with do stay through the meal but they go to a side room with a packed lunch

    More or less this IME.

Saying that, a bit of hospitality/common courtesy is always welcome & usually appreciated, but IME the vast majority of photographers will not expect to be included in your celebrations other than in a professional capacity.

I will be feeding the photographer, Cameraman and producer at my wedding, as they are all friends.

God only knows what people will think, when they see a full broadcast quality set up, plus track and dolly for the sweeping shots. Even though its a year away, the producer has already scouted the location and created a shot list
  • My other half has spoken to him today and he says that he only expects a sandwich type meal.

I still think it is a bit cheeky to be honest.
We are having a buffet in the evening around the time he would be finishing and I would of told him to help himself to that but to have it in his contract that he expects feeding is a bit to much.

Spoken to a guy at work today who has recomended his photographer he had so the greedy photographer I might of had might be out of a job now!!!!

Ooh that sounds cool will the wedding party arrive in speeding cars that skid to a halt. Oh and to have the camera circle you when you have your first dance.
My Dad was a Grip and I always loved the word Jib when I was a kid. Was really disappointed when I finally saw it bit like the dolly really but I learnt that was different very early on. Mum had to explain once when I announced to everyone my Dad had gone to work to play with his Dollies :o
