Commemorative Crowns

Decluttering and have come across 3 QEII Silver Jubilee and a Charles and Di commemorative crowns knocking about in a drawer. Nothing special and I know they are too common to be worth much. According to a 'sage' on Wikipedia they can be paid into the bank for face value of 25p. Anyone know is this the case or got any better idea?

They can be paid into your bank at face value. Alternatively the Americans often like to buy them so they might be worth looking to sell on ebay with the overseas option on.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Actually take that back, looking on ebay they don't sell anymore so it looks like that's another market hit by the recession.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. We always used to when I worked in a bank, and then the staff would fight to buy them from the tills. That's why I have so many of the things..one day they might be worth something...I hope
I remember once a customer wanted to change old £1 notes that were absolutely mint, we explained that they were probably worth more to a dealer but the man insisted he didn't have time for all that. We exchanged about £30 and then bought them back from the bank and the manager took them 3 doors down to a coin dealer who paid £8 each for them which we put in the drinks kitty. We had a grand Christmas party that year!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I had someone exchange an old tenner, who was insistent on it even when I explained to him it could be worth a lot more. Got bought off me by a customer within 2 minutes.0

Took them to my bank yesterday and exchanged them for face value.
The branch manager was serving at the counter and after scrutinising them she said yes they could be exchanged, but what were they?
"Crowns", I said.
"Oh", she said. (In other words, what the hell are crowns. Not just policemen who are getting younger!)
"Well I'd have to find out what the face value is, you see."
"25p" I said.
"Ok then" she said and gave me a quid.
Have just bought a lottery ticket with it!0
