Defaults on credit file

Hi Peeps,

Just wondering how long does a default stay on your credit file for, i heard it was 6 years from the date of default. What happens though if at the end of the 6 years you have still not made any payment to the debt and it is still defaulted.

I believe that if a debt has not had a payment for 6 years then it is statute barred. The defaults will not come off your file for 6 years from the last one.

I may have this totally wrong I apologise now if I have.

The defaults will drop off your file 6 years after date of default, along with all details of the account & this cannot be reinstated on your file by the creditor or DCA.
This doesn't mean that your debt has been wiped out.
If there's been no contact between yourself & the creditor for 6 years, then the debt may be statute barred.
This means that the creditor can still chase you for payment but cannot legally enforce through the court system.
