Change of contract, makes it worse for me...

I would be grateful if someone here knew about contracts.
I have worked for the same company for 5 years now. After 3 years of asking i finally got a contract which i thought was ok and more importantly, we agreed on it together.
I come in to work today to see my *new* contract on the desk. He had not said anything about it.
Boss is rarely in and talking to him on the phone is a nightmare. You never seem to have his full attention.
Firstly, i know why he has changed my contract, I used to work x 2 full days (9.30-5.30) but in Auguest 08 it was verbally agreed i could change that to x 3 days 9.30 - 2.30 as my disabled son was starting school and because of his disability ( severe autism ) i am needed to take him to school and pick him up.
So on my new contract he has given me 4 weeks holiday leave ( I have always hade 5 weeks and i am doing same hours as before just over more days now )
Changed the day i get paid to a Saturday by CHEQUE, so i have to come in and get my wages, when it used to go into my account every Friday after my weeks work. The small bit of money i do earn pays for our weekly shop, so to get a cheque on a Saturday is of no help to me, it wont go in till Monday, then wont clear till Thursday. Almost a week late.
Says i wont get sick pay, but i should as i earn over the required amount. And last year i was off sick twice both with a sick cert, once for a nasty throat infection 2 weeks and once for a throat operation following infection signed off for 4 weeks, i didnt get paid 1 penny for those 6 weeks off.
I have worked here for 5 years, but he says on new contract i starting here in May 07 because he changed the business name to a limited name then, surely thats nothing to do with contract?
And in old contract it says i will be paid 1 months pay per year i have worked here should i be made redundent, new contract doesnt say anything about that. Which worries me in todays times.
Also old contract said i will be paid £30 if i get called out to alarm 'going off' as i live nearest, new contract doesnt mentioned this and i have been called out 4 times in the past 24 months.
I dont want to sound ungrateful, but i just feel he is taking me for a ride. I do more i should here, boss is forever calling me up and complaining about stuff, never thankful for what i do and quite frankly he talks to me abit like dirt ( but he does everyone )
Oh... and by the way, to make matters more difficult, my boss is my husbands childhood friend and best man at our wedding.

Firstly, how many employees are there?
I think you may need to look at this link - it says what should happen & how a contract can be changed.... http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/EmploymentContractsAndConditions/DG_10028079
There are some useful links in there too.0 -
You also have extra rights as a carer of a disabled child:-

There are only 3 of us that work there.
To be honest, i want to go back into nursing for the NHS and i am looking for a job within the NHS that will suit the hours i can do.
I know i get more rights be a mum to a disabled child, but that doesnt stop the tuts and moans when i have to hurry off because he is self harming or suchlike. I like to work, because otherwise with hubby working from 6am to 5.30pm ( he works 70 miles away ) its just me and the boy when hes not at school and i think it does me good to get out of the house.
Sometimes you are damed if you do, damed if you dont!!!0 -

hi cceg,
That says it all - working for family/friends is really difficult when things go wrong as the repercussions beyond work tie your hands.
It's clear your current job has not been placed on a proper business footing. Your boss acts as if he is doing you a favour letting you work there, and alters your terms & conditions at a whim when it suits him, knowing that you won't kick up a fuss to avoid bad blood with your husband.
Get out and into the NHS asap - at least it you know where you stand with them.
Good luck!"Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm" (Sir Winston Churchill)0
