How to earn more working 24/7?!

I've just had an interview for a job (no offer etc. yet) and was asked to sign a statement saying that I would be available for shifts 24/7.

It's just occured to me that this arrangement severely limits my earning potential via other jobs. :o To mystery shop, you need to be available, and I've never sold anything (yet) on ebay etc.

Can anyone think of other more reliable ways (than the above) to earn extra money? I feel I need a regular guaranteed income, ideally in the region of £50 per week, although would consider anything however small. It just needs to be reliable.

Many thanks.

Mystery shops are done at dates and times of your choosing. Theres no conflict. If you work a nightshift you'd be finished at 6am you could mystery shop at 9am before going to bed or at 4pm when you get up. You've more chance of fitting in mystery shops than someone who works monday to friday from 8am until 5pm.

E-bay - list when you want. Auctions end when you want you don't need to do anything in between. You don't need to be around when the auctions end either.

Beig available for shifts 24/7 means you'll know 2 weeks in advance what going on. Thats far better than those of us who are on call 365/24/7. In my case I have to respond within 15 minutes of recieving a call whilst the OH has to respond within 2 hours.

One of my old places of work had a policy whereby you were supposed to know your shifts two weeks in advance, but the days you were meant to be working could be changed at 48 hours notice with no penalty and the hours could be changed at 24 hours notice with no penalty.

    Hiya hon, :hello:

When I used to be a bar manager we had quite a few people working for us who had jobs with variable shifts such as nurses etc.

What they would do is let me know their shift pattern as soon as they knew - and then I would work them into the rota at whatever gaps were available. We were open from 10 in the morning until 12 at night so there was quite a lot of scope. It just needed a bit of flexibility on both sides.

They were all nice people, hard working, and good at their jobs - and I admired their work ethic and wanted to support it.

I can't be the only boss who feels that way???? :D

You know when they say "if you want something done ask a busy person?" I always used to think that people who wanted second jobs were the hardest workers amongst us - and I was often right. Some of our all time best were second jobbers.

So what I'm trying to say is don't write off the second job option out of hand. It could still work for you.

    Love Jacks xxx :D

  • Fellow shift worker here. Working shifts does mean you're more flexible for other money earning ventures, you'll work out what pattern works best for you. When I'm on nights I tend to get to sleep as soon as I get in and then I'm up at 2pm-ish giving me several hours in the afternoon to get things done, I also work late shifts which gives me loads of time in the late morning/early afternoon to do stuff. You'll find it's a lot easier than you think.

    Good luck!

Hi, can anyone suggest any particular job role e.g. bar work as above... etc.? I'm trying to identify some possible jobs to look out / search for.
    Thanks
