a family friend is interested in moving into a FOLD .
He owns his own home and has around £40,000 in savings .
Does anyone know how to go about getting a place in a FOLD and how much they cost .

Your friend needs to make an application at his local Housing Executive office - the NIHE and Housing Associations all share the same waiting list so he will be assessed by the Housing Executive and placed on the waiting list. He should indicate that he is interested in Sheltered accommodation (there are several other providers of thist type of accommodation, depending upon his area) and he will be asked to specify 2 areas in which he would like to be accommodated.

Charges vary depending on the sheltered scheme but there will be a charge made for rent, rates and any services provided under the arrangements of the particular scheme. His current capital savings would exclude him from receiving Housing Benefit, unfortunately, but the accommodation provider should assist with making appropriate benefit applications in future if he becomes entitled.
