Bit of advice needed

Hello everyone!

Iv been working in my current position for about 18 months now. My problem is, I think one of my co-workers is on more money than me. My co-worker said he gets a little bit more than me but he's known for trying to whind people up. So I did something a little sneeky, he left his pay slip out and I had a quick look and he is on more than me per hour, but I cant confront my manager about it because I shouldn't of been looking at his pay slip.

As far as Im aware, he is on the same contract, with the same job title as me. Last I knew, if this happens Im entitled to a the all the extra money he's received. How would I go about this?

Any advice wellcomed. Thanks! :D

There is no reason for you to be on the same pay, unless there is a specific rate for the job.
Many jobs have a salary scale where people may be employed at different rates within that scale

That for me is the key bit - you don't know.
  • Everbody in my work place (about 100 staff) is on the same money as their equal.
About a year ago someone in a different department found out that someone with the same job title as them and same responsabilities as them, was on slightly more and they received the difference back.

If I ask to see his contract or ask too much about it work will get suspicious and its a very !!!!!y environment.

Is there an agreed rate for the job?
    Is there any Union involvement?
Do you know if this person has the same contract as you?
Have they been there longer than you?
Do you get annual pay rises?
Do any of the staff get bonuses?
  • OP - Do you have the same experience as this other person? I'm on more than people of the same grade as me but with less seniority.
    Regards
  • The other person has been there the same amount of time as me and is under the same cotract as me (I found out today). We both started on the same salery. We have the same experience but I was told about 6 months ago he's had a pay rise and is still doing the same roll as me.

We dont get annual pay rises or any bonuses.

Perhaps this person got a pay rise in recognition of their work.
They may have done something extra, they may have progressed quicker than other people doing the same job.
Who told you he had a pay rise and was a reason given?
