Hi this is the first time i have ever written on anything like this, so please excuse me if it's all wrong! Basically, i am trying to get compensation from a national company for a default that they wrongly entered on my credit file. As a result of this entry i was denied a mortgage by a high street lender and had to opt for another with significantly higher rates. The national company in question has agreed to look at my claim but i have to prove that they were the only blemish on my record on the day the mortgage company did the search. I have asked experian but they say they do not hold back dated information. So, does anyone know how i could get a 'snap shot' of my credit file for a particualr day 6 months ago - this really is the key to me having a case or not - so is vital. You need to make a complaint with the Information Commisioneers Office.

If your complaint is upheld, the report from the ICO will be sufficent to seek compensation.
