I brought a £400 laptop in may, and it wont charge, so i took it back to tescos and said that i wanted a refund or a replacement as its faulty goods, apparently they cant do that they have to send it away to be fixed can take 2 weeks, which i said is unacceptable. I need my laptop for work,i complained to head office and they said the same,if it cant be fixed then they may replace. Dont think this is fair,so im just waiting for another call from them,so be careful as this is their new policy, apparently.

It's standard regulations I'm afraid. We buyers have no right to a refund, a retailer is perfectly entitled to offer a repair first. It would be the same wherever you went.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. When ever I have brought electrical goods from Tesco, most of them faulty on first purchase. I have always got a replacement without argument.
I think if they do send it anyway for repair they should offer a temporary replacement laptop and I would think a gift card for the inconvenience, not like Tesco can not afford it but they are very tight!!No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -
Hi yep i agree, i will keep on their case, i wont be fobbed off!0

I think if you take it back quite soon you will get a replacement but for something bought in May you will only get a repair. They may agree to refund if after its been repaired the fault reoccurs but even trading standards will tell you they are acting within the lawWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0

Are you sure it's not the batteries - be careful because these may not be covered by the warranty after such period of time. Make sure they are not going to charge you an extortionate amount of money if it does turn out to be the batteries!
Good luck - sounds like you've got the sort of challenge I relish! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

How long have you had your laptop? If you have had it for months then fair enough I think a repair is ok but if you have only just bought it then thats a different story. I thought whenever you bought something if it didn't work then it means it is faulty so was not fit for sale and you are entitled to your money back. You can be offered a repair but you don't have to accept it, once accept a repair you don't usually get a replacement later on if it continues to not work. I'd be giving trading standards a call.
Or am I completely wrong??? What happened to the sale of goods act and the consumer's rights?0 -

The sale of goods act is in force here, retailers have a right to offer a repair rather than a refund. laptop was bought in May as per the OP.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sometimes it is better to just contact the actual laptop manufacturer in cases like these. If you bought it in May, you would still be covered by the 12 month warranty and that is probably all that Tesco will do with it anyway, (send it back to the manufacturer for repair), but if you did it yourself you would probably get it sorted quicker.
My HP laptop broke over the Christmas Holidays and I contacted HP, they sent a courier to my house to collect the laptop and had it back to me within 10 days, at no cost to myself, and that was including holidays such as new years day and the rest. I was very impressed with HP.0 -
I know a one time you could ask for an extension on your guarantee for the length of time an item has been away for repair, does anyone know if you still can?0

Forgot to say, that a couple of years ago a bloke bought a laptop from our local Tesco, when he got home and unpacked it and opened it up ,all that was inside it was a TILE! He went straight back to Tesco who told him to get in touch with manufactuar!
He got no joy there either until he went to the papers about it.0
