Scratchcards in magazines - worth doing?

Hi I'm a newbie to comping. I posted this question in one of the general threads but it seems it might have been more appropriate here.

I have "won" a cash prize on a scratch card that came in "Wedding" magazine. THe phone and text options to get the Collection number are expensive, but would still be covered by the minimum prize. The post option is cheaper, but I wasn't sure if it was worth bothering to do it in case it just gets ignored. Any other advice on these sorts of competitions would also be welcome.

P.S. The promoter is Jackpot UK

....after I'd already binned my scratchcard..... not that I'd have won owt lol

...most will cost you £9 to phone and you'll receive a prize you can buy from a pound shop... but then again I guess if you win.....

  • What does it say about the prize EXACTLY? Usually they are all winners and everything looks good until you read the smallprint.

Almost always a swizz. They make money on you calling to find out which "prize" you have won.
  • OK the easiest way is to write down everything they have.

The win specifically states I have won up to £10000 in cash (I did also win on the item prizes, but dismissed that as a waste of money and effort to claim for). The way I read it this means I will have won at least £20, which I can claim for the price of 5 first class stamps (2 for the collection number and 3 to send the scratchcard with 2 stamps), and the number of larger prizes is not totally derisory. Obviously I need to request that they don't send me junk mail.

  • So, have you managed to learn something on the subject? I've got the same question about the same promotion, so I also would like to know the answer.
Oh, as for number of stamps -- two for Collection Number and another one for scratch itself. Where are other two?
