Social Security Number (Where to find it)

My husband is due to receive the state pension in a couple of months.
One of the questions listed on a questionnaire, is what is his social security number.
Can anyone tell me where we would find this? I take it everyone has one?
We have never claimed or received any benefits, other than the 'family allowance' but that was 40 years ago. So not sure if this makes a difference.

Do thry mean his National Insurance Number?
Should be on any payslips, P45, P60, anything from the DWP.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I did wonder if the National Insurance number was the same as Social Security number.
I guess it must be. Oh well, I'll tell him to put that down.0 -
I'm sure anyway they will be able to access his details with the NI number.
Good luck!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Thank you. I'm sure they'll shout if we're wrong.0
