Question on slow cooking

Options
Have had a quick look through the numerous slow cooker threads but cant really see the answer im after...so here goes...

Im going to cook a shoulder of lamb in the slow cooker soon (I have a real craving cos ive been looking at recipes) but ive read so many different ideas/viewpoints that im struggling to know what to do for the best.

What id like to do is trim all excess fat off the shoulder, stab and insert garlic/rosemary into the slits, rub with sea salt, pepper and various herbs then cook it with leeks, onions, carrots and potatoes. Thing is I dont know if thats feasible, would the veg turn out ok? Also I read somewhere that a can of chopped tomatoes over the lamb makes it a far nicer dish, what do you all think?

  • yep sounds lush except for my dislike of lamb.

if you put the veg in an hour or so after the meat it wont all be mush.

  • Thanks for that, Ill hold you personally responsible if I poison my whole family!! ;-D
  • lol you can eat veg raw so if that does happen you can ;-)

now if youd have done it with beef id have been there in a shot testing the safety ;p

Yes, the veg will be fine. I personally wouldn't bother with the tin of toms but thats down to my personal taste. Sounds lush. enjoy!
  • Because of the slow cooker environment will the garlic permeate everything? Dont want it to be too strong either!
