I am not new to the site and I do have a vague recollection of the thanks button being added to the site but can someone explain to me what it is all about.
I know some people avidly collect these thanks and wondered why.

It was originally put on to save having loads of posts saying "thanks" and not anything else.
People use it in all sorts of ways, as "thanks" for useful, funny, interesting etc. info or as an acknowledgement of the time someone put in or the post they've made. Whatever really!Torgwen.....................

I find the 'thanks' button exceedingly useful when I find a post in which someone expresses my feeling about something exactly as I would have, thus saving me having to post at all!
My only regret is that there is'nt a button I can press to say that what certain posters say is crap! :rotfl:'Puritanism: the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy'.

The thanks button is meant for uncluttering the forum of unnecessary "Thanks" posts and increasing a users "Thanks" count when someone clicks their Thanks button for one of their useful or funny or long or thoughtful posts. If you look to the left in the post view you will see "Thanked X times in Y posts".
Oh yes, and you can view all of your thanked posts by going into your Public Profile then selecting "Find my Thanked Posts"0 -

I guess the old-timers must get fed-up of Newbies asking the same old questions and must think we are all pretty lazy for not finding the answers for ourselves.
But this is a huge forum and I have found the search option to be a little wild with its results.
I have been trawling through allsorts to try and find out how to add a Thanks button to my new posts. I've been to the A-Z and been led astray by unrelated things that have caught my eye whilst trying to find out how to do it
I've got to the stage where I'm (almost) to scared to ask
I've found out when it was added as a feature, and why it is there, but for the life of me I can't find how to get one0 -
You cant thank your own posts only someone elses like so.....
