Returning to work after child

Hoping for some advice.
I would like to return to work part time (I know it is not a good time to be looking) after being out of work for about 20 months. I have really enjoyed being home with my son but feel it is time to do something for me.
My husband recived a transfer to yorkshire while I was pregnant so I left my old job in london and I have not worked since.
My CV has no gaps until this one and I am not sure how to address it on my CV.
I feel if I put in maternity leave I will get put straight to the bottom of the pile and if i leave it I feel that it could be viewed badly for not having been in employment for such a long time.
I am also thinking about playing down my last roll as I was the manager of a division with alot of responsibilty. I will be applying for more basic part time office jobs.
Many Thanks

Hi Moppet,
The only way is to be upfront and positive about it. I'd call it a career break and refer to it in your covering letter, saying how keen you are to get back into work now that your family has reached a certain stage - it then looks like a planned back-to-work event.
I know what you are saying about your previous role and whether it might put people off. You could tweak your CV and have 2 versions depending what type of job you are applying for. Or you could address it in your covering letter, explaining why you are looking for a different kind of role, but still emphasising your transferable skills.
Hope you find something you like and that likes you! Remember, not all managers see people with children in a negative light - especially the ones who have been through it themselves."Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm" (Sir Winston Churchill)0
