Where do I stand?

OK, so on Friday I left my job without working my notice for two reasons:

1. It was making me ill
2. The treatment of staff was appalling

I had been searching for a new position 3 months before hand but last week had been the hardest so far and I couldn't take it any more.

I am now left jobless and considering my options. There are no suitable vacancies in the area but I am searching every day.

I would like to claim JSA but not sure if I will be eligible. As I have stated, the job was making my incredibly stressed and depressed as well as making me feel sick at the thought of another day.

I have had two temporary jobs before this, both of which I enjoyed every minute of.

What can I do?

  • You can get JSA if you have good reason to leave your job. If you were travelling a journey that would be more than an hour and half by public transport (check detail) they will accept that as a reason say if your car needs expensive repairs that you can't afford. You need to prove it and won't get benefit right away. Other option could be to go to your doctor and get a line but benefits have changed recently and not sure how this would work.
  • So basically, a letter from my doctor stating I was suffering from high levels of stress?
