Using sweetener in bread making

Does anyone know if i can just substitute the sugar in my bread recipes for sweetener?

I use a bread machine. Wasnt sure how it would effect the bread rising or the crust forming? I know with cake baking the sponge doesnt brown like normal with sweetener and you have to use a glaze. thanks!

The booklet for my machine says that sweeteners don't work, it has to be something like sugar or honey. Hope this helps x

I think the sugar is food for the yeast aiding the bread rising not as a flavouring in bread so I don't think it would work with sweetener. Maybe you can find a sugarless recipe. I'll see what I can find.

hmm yes thats what i suspected. its purely to help reduce my calorific intake, im trying to lose a bit of weight and thought it couldnt hurt to reduce the amount in my bread!
