  • This very scenario happened to my family in the early 90s and I can honestly say I would rather a complete stranger who knew nothing of the situation had bought our home than someone who had cashed in on our misfortune.
  • yes I would

My poor friend is having to sell her house due to her husband running off with another woman (using the term woman loosely dont know if im allowed to put slapper). She can't afford all the mortgage on her own and he's refusing to pay his half or support his child so her only option is to sell or have it repossed, so we're thinking of buying her house off her and letting her rent it back so she still has somewhere nice to live, but this is pulling with my conscience, feel like we're profitting out of her misery, but then think at least she's still able to live in the lovely house she's had nearly 20 years.
By the way she's been to court he's signed to pay but is now refusing she cant physically extract the money out of him how does that work, she cant afford to go to court again or pay anymore solicitors fees, im gutted for her.

I'm just reading up on posts involving renting and came across your post. I'd just like to say I would consider you a life saver if I were your friend. At the moment I would love a family member or my best friend to say something like than to me. :)
    Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...
  • Suppose it has to be done!
  • I would ask them if they would mind and say that you need a bigger place, they might be pleased that someone they know (even a bit) would get it rather than a (complete) stranger, or they might feel bad, but either way at least you would know.

Yes go for it. You're doing them a favour by bidding for it. The more it sells for the less they'll owe the mortgage company.

P.S. I wouldn't rent the place to them - they might get irrational and bitter and trash the place.
  • No Way! My Integrity and Morals come first. Each day I lived there I would feel guilty.

  • def buy if you can afford it..

if feeling bad, offer to rent current house to the evictee, if you can afford not to sell to release equity towards new place..

    It happens all the time.
  • Yep - if it was a bargain - and if I felt bad afterwards I would offer to rent them my other house - in this world everyone for themselves - and you could be helping the neighbours out in the process:beer:
