As the title says, although i'm posting on behalf of my siter.
She is currently employed on a part time basis, and has been offered another job still on a part time basis but self employed.
She has just found out she is 8 weeks pregnant.
Her current employer knows that she is pregnant but the new employer doesn't. She has been told by a friend that as she will be self employed she does not have to inform them before she takes the position.
Does anyone know if this is the case?
She knows that as she will be self employed she will not be entitled to SMP etc.
The new job is what she has been aiming for in her career and doesn't want to miss the opportunity, but wants to do it right (inform before/after taking position).
Any advice gratefully received.

Won't she be getting SMP from her current employer? I assume she was planning on doing both jobs from your post.
You can get Maternity allowance if you are self employed, there are some rules and regs but I'mnot sure of them0 -
At this stage in her pregnancy she is under no legal obligation to inform the organisation that she works for of her pregnancy. This is the case whether she is an employee or self-employed.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

As above there is no legal obligation to inform an employer all though it would be common courtesy to do it in my opinion0
