Did you know about the fee before his visit? Can he not offer you anything else? With an offer from Nationwide you must have good credit."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Be careful about this post.........for help go to the below thread (if your genuine)

A mortgage broker on here could answer definitively, but I'm sure they HAVE to explicitly tell you about any fees, costs or commision they will charge you, or earn, before they start advising you.
If he did this, and told you about the £1275 , then you may be liable.
If he did not, then don't pay!
Oh - and I think it should have been in writing.0 -
Don't get drawn into this, read this before you post, this is probably a disgruntled advisor playing devil's advocate!

From their website
'For mortgage related services the fee will typically be 1.79% of the mortgage advance applied for, minimum fee of 750. In addition, there may be a valuation administration fee of up to 0.7% of the loan amount. For example if you take out a loan of £50,000 you will need to pay a total of up to £1,245; comprising of the broker fee of £895 and the valuation administration fee of up to £350. This in addition to any commission we may recieve from the lender. Broker fees may be added to the mortgage.'
These fees are outragous but you did sign a document. Read the wording very carefully on that document to ensure your liable even if you don't proceed. If you are, get them to find a better deal, ensuring you are not going to be charged again! If they won't, walk away and either see a solicitor or put it down to bitter experience.0 -

Richard, if you read the thread I posted you may see why I was unsure of yr post.........However, yr treatment is 1. appalling 2. a familiar story it would appear from this company. How they can justify these charges I don't know, I agree with you if you had been told the fee amount yr ears would have picked up. No way can they justify these charges for a standard mainstream mortgage. Do you feel able to challenge them on this? I somehow feel this company may be well known to the FSA.......If you need any help post back on here and I am sure u will receive support.........Even on here you have to be careful of the information you receive from some people, however the "regulars" would soon point out if the information was flawed........
