Megaman (a German company) sell dimmable energy savers in a wide range of sizes that are suitable for use in the UK. They're not so well represented in shops and supermarkets who mostly sell dubious quality bulbs from China, but you can mail order them quite easily. I have many of their bulbs and they all work very well and have lasted well so far.0

yep..megaman are about the only ones I know of since (IIRC) they're not CFL bulbs, but CCFL, as used in computer case lighting..0

Cheers for that. I will look into them. May I ask where you got them from?0 -
I have just bought one today from B&Q
The make is Govena and it is described as a 'new' dimmable energy saving bulb. It is 20W equiv to 100W and apparently dims down to 2%. I have just found a link to the product website:
http://www.govena.com/en;govena,aslo,dimmable_energy-saving_bulbs.html
In my local B&Q they are on offer for £5 - down from £8, but this was a hand-written notice, so may not apply everywhere.
I have yet to try it out - so will do that later and report back on it tomorrow.0 -

Oh great. Eager to find out.
Think I will have to pop to my b& q tomorrow. I didn't see these when I went on Sunday unless they are new in
Do you have dimmer switches (the ones that you press on and turn to the desired level) as that is what I have so trying to find a bulb that will work with my dimmer switches.0 -

I have tried it out on a push-turn dimmer switch. It takes a second or two to come on, but does smoothly increase or decrease brightness level when the knob is turned. The only problem is that it makes a slight buzz/crackle noise. I will leave it in place for a few days to see if that wears off, if not I will return it. £5 is OK for a 'perfect' lightbulb - but not otherwise.
I don't think that these are new in B&Q - but they were in the 'speciality' bulb section (on the bottom shelf) rather than being in with the low energy bulbs - rather stupid really.0
