I have been told by our union once you have done it, and as you have now undertaken that task it is agreeable.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

Bookduck is right - that is the advice that I used to give my members back in the days when I was branch secretary, you only need to do a task once that isnt in your job description for it to then become custom & practice. I think that you will find that in most job descriptions these days that employers put in a clause saying "any other work as and when required" - this covers them for a multitude of things so you can be asked and be expected to carry out work that is not in your job description.

It's not an easy question to answer, look at ET/EAT outcomes...http://www.employmentappeals.gov.uk/Public/Upload/97_139798_17799_210fhslh.doc

For a custom to be upheld it must be long established, reasonable, certain and not contrary to law.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.
  • Thanks for the replies. I 'm thinking more about extra holiday days and benefits more than extra tasks.
