With the horrible weather we've been having, I wondered how people are coping?

Well apart from a couple of hours with the gas fire on the other evening, I've not used the haeting all Winter. My flat is well insulated/ double glazed etc and is on a middle floor. Also, the water tank is in the middle of the flat (I use it for hot water). I manage by wearing a thick jumper and sometimes put a spare duvet over me when watching TV. I'm fortunate in that I don't feel the cold as much as most people and maybe I'm a bit hardened to it as an outdoor worker. I also have too much natural padding (read - I'm fat). Maybe I would feel the cold more if I lost some weight.
I also have a couple of silver sheets that are recommended by "Help the Aged" but I've only used them a couple of times. I don't consider myself old yet (51) but maybe I will feel things more as I age.
In fact, I do have the opposite problem and I find that I sometimes get "heat stressed" in hotter times.
I guess I've been a bit lucky in nature's lottery and in the part of the world I live.
EDITED TO ADD: I live in southeast England so that's usually a help - though this Winter has been the worst I recall since 86/87 when it was a real humdinger.0 -
I am trying to keep the house warm but my warm and the rest of the families idea of warm seem to be poles apart. My main problem is trying to convince my teenage sons and Husband to put a jumper on instead of putting on an additional electric heater:rolleyes:But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0

Have to say that we weren't keeping track until we got electricity bills for £40and gas for £100+ the other day. These might not sound so bad, but we already have a DD in place and it seems to be making little to no difference.
We've now started putting the heating down quite low at night and turning it off during the day where it's not too icy (old flat, don't want the pipes bursting!)
I suspect that we'll have to voluntarily up our DDs too, as I don't want to sit in debt to the power companies all year..0
