  • Hi

I can't understand why the guy from freecycle is having a dig at free2collect, at the end of the day they are both on the same wavelength. Free2collect is not on the same scale as freecycle but they are just trying to do their bit as far as recycling unwanted items.
The venom in his reply suggests he has a problem with other websites competing with freecycle.

Thanks but a town of 300,000 and we dont have a local group.

Its a very good idea and I really hope it expands and recycling is not only good for the enviroment, its also free :)

    Try Freecycle for this.

It's exactly the same idea, but a much bigger membership. They have groups all over the country. I regularly see a lot of really good items being offered on my local groups (I'm in two) free for anyone that collects.

I've got no connection with Freecyle apart from being a member of my 2 local groups.

It concerns me when websites do not follow UK law. The Data Protection Act requires that any website in the UK must publish a proper privacy policy when they ask for any personal details (including an email address) .

What's wrong with me pointing out the law?

On a seperate note, I haven't had most of my posts removed because they all linked to the same site and looked like I was advertising my own site which is against the rules of this site.

freecycle.org NEVER has anything worth bothering with. I live in Liverpool, a town of over 500,000 people and there is never, ever anything on freecycle worth bothering with, everything is worn out and fit for the bin.
please don't waste our time with rubbish (literally)

I find that strange. I live in a village on the Berks/Bucks border. I'm a member of 2 local groups, and the offers that come every day are sometimes really surprising. I get an average of 30 to 50 offers a day on my local groups and I find that some of the stuff on offer is amazing.

I've given away a car on Freecycle. There was nothing wrong with it. My uncle offered it to me because he can't drive through illness. I didn't need another car and couldn't be bothered to sell it (didn't have the time). Today I've seen a 32" TV offered, a dining table and six chairs, and a three piece suite. These are only some of the offers I've seen in my local groups (both within a 5 mile radius to me). I very rarely apply for offers (only if I see a need for the item myself).

Obviously different groups have different kinds of offers. The area I live in is known as a 'money area'. Maybe this affects the kind of offers I see on my local Freecycle groups.

This would affect any site that offered this kind of service.

You stay on the drugs mate.

From the look of your other posts this evening, I don't think you'll be allowed to stay on this site for very long.

  • look at the end of the day....freecycle has been going for ages...and free2collect is fairly new and needs support like alot of other new sites with the same idea.....stopping things going into the landfill or being fly tipped....this thread was not meant to be a battle field to vebally fight out which is the best site.....there is another thread for freecycle....so any comments related to them should be there......at the end of the day i put this thread here to bring peoples attention to the fact that there is free items being offered .....if there is nothing there on the site....in your area, or not what you want fine.....it has only taken 2 min..of your time to go and have a look.......one option is to stop moaning if there is nothing in your area..and advertise something you dont want....to start the ball rolling....
at the end of the day the only thing that matters, is that this thread has done its job...by making at least 2 people happy.........star bucks...because now he has a free greenhouse........and secondly....the person giving it away....because they got rid of something that they did not want....and on a personal note...there is a time a place to accuse people drug taking, or what ever and this is not the place to do it.......chill out man....

  • i thought it might a good idea if anyone knows of any recycling sites which advertise free items to collecter maybe they could put them on this thread..
whether they be local or national ...by using these sites it will save things going into the landfills....save money as the items will be free,

i know of three sites to start with.... they are.....

    https://www.free2collect.co.uk .

...this site is fairly new even though it is national, it does seem to have pockets of advets....

    https://www.freecycle.org

.....this is an established site.. it is national, and is sub devided into locations......

    https://www.communityrepaint.org.uk/about2002.htm

......this site is about recycling paint, and does say its free , this is national, and has local organisations that are part of the scheme.

i know 2 of the above sites have got threads...but i have put them here also to start this one off....this is not a comparison site...it is just here hopefully to so people can find out about the different sites which are out there...

  • Hi

Free2collect has an option to download a promotional poster. I managed to put one up in my local shopping centre. Maybe you could do something similar which may kick start free2collect in your area.
