MAC Make Up Brushes

Hi folks.
My friend phoned me, cos with the help of my PC I can normally solve all her problems......until now !
She wants to buy her daughter a set of MAC Make up Brushes for her birthday. She has been told they are just a Christmas line, and are not stocked any other time of the year.
"No trouble" says I - famous last words.
I have spent the past hour trying everything from MAC own website - no sets, even their Australian site - no sets.
Beauty Counter Direct, Buy Cosmetics, Harrods, Selfridges, John Lewis, Debenhams etc etc.Nothing
The only ones I can find are on ebay - which I have no problem with for myself, but considering some of these sets are between £25 and £60, I want to make sure my friend gets the 'genuine' article for her daughter.
Some of the sellers are 'first timers' it would appear, so also something to be warey of.
So, I thought someone on MSE would know, or works for one of the big department stores who may know......
Anyone ??
Many thanks for anyone taking the time to read this and give any advice......though what is wrong with No7 I don't know !!

There is a shop at cheshire oaks McArthur Glen and it sells all types of premium brand make up including Mac. before xmas they had a set of Mac Makeup brushes for sale. I remember commenting that they were expensive but i guess Mac is and it was apparently alot cheaper than the high street. Perhaps you could try a deisgner outlet like that for some?0

I think Mac are pretty hot on selling out- they do limited edition Xmas lines and every year, without fail, the have sold out by Xmas eve. And thats if your lucky- many of it goes by mid or even early december- I know as I watch it and leer over it every year (and sometimes if I'm lucky my mum picks me something for my Xmas present and then says how it was the last one etc etc in November!)
I would advise going to the Mac store- if you have one near you, or places like Selfridges, and higher end stores are worth asking- they may be able to advise you further, but I hate to say it, many of the Chinese stuff is fake- ebay is full of it and there is a stark difference. You could be lucky and have found a good genuine place, but if your going to be spending alot, personally I would't risk it.0 -

Mmmm, that is my thoughts.
If I was buying for myself, I calculate the risk I am taking against the 'bargain' I think I may be getting, but knowing young women these days, they all want the NAME and the genuine article.
I will direct my friend to ebay, and then the decision is up to her.
Another suggestion would be to promise these as Christmas 2009 present, and then she can hopefully get a 100% genuine one from the main stores.
I just wondered if anyone in the business knew who might stock them, or even if there was a genuine US distributor.
Thanks for all replies0 -
btw - can i ask, given that the brushes are actually quite expensive, how 'lomg' are they expected to last for that price?
i'm asking because i bought some No7 brushes last year with the Boots winkie vouchers! i have washed them say every couple of months and the shadow brushes going well but feels like the blusher brush fibres are breaking - are they ready to be replaced?
i got the No7 ones because the cheaper ones went funny - ie the filaments became all knotted up. but now i am looking forward to trying the 'free' brushes coming up in the Clinique bonus time at Debenhams (set of 3 brushes: blusher, shadow eyebrow, and at John lewis (blusher brush) approx rrp£12-14 i think.0 -
