  • I'm doing a Mr Men themed hamper for my nephew - what about a Little Miss one for your daughter?

    Check out www.themistermen.co.uk

Here's what I'm doing for my nephew:

Mr Clever - 365 Random Facts in a Jar
Mr Stingy - Penny Jar (look after the pennies and the ££s will look after themselves)
Mr Bounce - Ball of Life
Mr Greedy - DIY Cookbook (he's training to be a chef)
Mr Funny - still to decide on a jokey idea
Mr Forgetful - book "Important Things You Learned in School Then Forgot"
Mr Strong - rugby match survival kit incl Hipflask and Handwarmers

These are adaptations of homemade gift ideas that I saw on this site and a few things I've made up myself.

Or I'm also working on a sweetshop themed gift for my 12 yr old niece:

Alphabet Letters - pic n mix buzzwords
Dolly Mixtures - Magnetic Memo Board
    Gobstopper - Ball of Life
Jazzies - crochet in a jar (bright funky wool)
Jelly Belly Beans - Pencil Case (£1.20 Debenhams)/Coloured Pencils
Love Hearts - Journal Notebook (£3 Au Naturale)
Midget Gems - Pic n Mix Journal Prompts
Parma Violets - Purple Bead Jewellery Kit (already had kit)
Penny Mixture - Penny Jar (look after the pennies)
Rainbow Drops - art in a jar
    Smarties - Games Compendium

    Good luck!

Hi my daughter turns 16 this year so i promised years ago that we would do a day in London.

My son turns 18 in two weeks and we have decided to do him a box with 18 things in. There will be small pressies as well as one larger one. It was hard to think of things but we are almost there. I am putting some sweets in there and books etc... You could do a basket or box with 16 things in. If she likes jewellery and your budget allows there are some nice silver bangles on the amazon site.
  • My dad gave me 18 roses when I turned 18 in addition to a main present - they were lovely and made me feel really grown-up :) I reckon 16 roses (or another nice flower) for her 16th would go down really well, though I realise it's not that cheap :o

When I turned 16 my parents bought me a St Christopher pendant.

He is, if you don't know, the patron saint of travellers - it seems a nice way to acknowledge that at 16, your daughter will be getting a lot more independent, and that you're looking out for her all the time.

I loved it, anyway, as I went off to Uni after that then left home. I've never taken it off.

Means even more to me since my folks split up - it reminds me that they're both still their for me.

Of course, it is entirely a matter of taste. You might think is tacky, or it might bring up some dodgy theological issues, but it is just a suggestion!

Thank you all for your replies - all great ideas. (Think I'll give the chastity belt idea a miss though!)

I love the ides of a piece of jewellery to keep and especially like the St Christopher idea. Our religion does mean a lot to us and whenever travelling anywhere we do say a prayer to St Christopher to keep us safe. I think it will be something she will really appreciate. And yes it is time for me to acknowledge that she is becoming more independent.

The 16 flowers are also a lovely idea I think I'll use.

Think I'll save the charm bracelet idea for her 18th when other family members could add to the charms.

    Thanks all, Narla x

Narla - glad you liked the idea! I'm not all that religious, but it still meant a lot to me, so I'm sure it will mean the world to your daughter, if her faith is a big part of her life.

    Hope it all goes well!
