Recipe to use up previously frozen french stick please!

Hi
I'm relatively new to OS and rather than feeding this to the birds, has anyone any ideas on what to make out of a previously frozen french stick?

We don't eat croutons, by the way : )

Can I cook it in some sort of recipe and re-freeze?

I'm out of ideas... Thanks!

You could make bread and butter pudding if you fancy something sweet. Or cheese and bread pudding if you'd rather savoury. Homemade pizza?

I'd also go for the garlic bread suggestion.

  • Sprinkle it with some warm water and put in the oven for about 5 mins to defrost. The water will re-moisten it so it becomes edible again!

Or - slice in half lengthways, cover with tomato puree or some chopped, drained tinned tomatioes, add cheese and any topping you like for a homemade pizza in double quick time. Ham and pineapple - naff (apparently) but goes down a treat in our house!

Or - slice into rounds on an angle, rub with a cut garlic clove, add tomatoes, olives, mozzarella etc, and serve as bruschetta/crostini as an appetiser/starter.

I'd fry up some chopped onion, garlic & mushrooms (anything else you have that goes with it eg celery, then mix this with either a cheese sauce or a tin of mushroom or celery soup. Put it in an oven proof dish, slice the french bread into rounds & put it on top, grate cheese over & bake until hot & cheese has melted. Good with almost any veg - I like broccoli with it.
mmmmm I think I know what we're having for dinner tomorrow.

    Hi
Thanks for the ideas everyone - I made a 'french' onion soup and sliced it and put on top sprinkled with cheese : )
  • You can re-freeze bread.

  • Really handy. I have taken a loaf out and put it back in a couple of times.
