Tax allowances on pension contributions

OH pays tax at 40%. He pays contributions to pension ( LGPS ) directly through deduction from salary. He doesn't have any other pensions apart from this one. Am I right in thinking that he can claim an additional tax allowance for these contributions because he is a higher rate tax payer?
Thanks

No - he's already getting the full allowance because the deductions are made from his gross salary (before tax)
