Maestro Rip Off!

My daughter is over here on holiday, she has a Maestro debit card issued in Spain, and was horrified to be charged 11 Euros to withdraw £200!! This withdrawel was made from the nationwide cash machine at Tesco's. Can anyone suggest where she could go to avoid these diabolical charges!

£200*2.75%+£1.50=£7
These charges are applied by the card issuer. Local ATM can charge small amounts too, but I don't think this is the case with Nationwide ATM.0 -
Sounds like the card was issued in Spain and the person is being charged 'foreign' withdrawal rates by the card issuer.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

If it's a machine that also charges for normal UK withdrawals then that would be the explanation, although I've not yet met one of those in a Tesco. But if not then I'm with the previous posters: it's a charge for withdrawing 'abroad', and your daughter is 'abroad' for these purposes.
As for where else she could go, I'm not sure! Does 'her' bank in Spain have branches over here? If so a call to them might help.Signature removed for peace of mind0
