Eating Well V's Eating Cheaply??

wow... this has really turned into something i didn't want.
I didn't realise wanting to eat Cheaply and Healthily was a bad thing.. hmm..
I realise some people have NO CHOICE, but i also know alot of people with no money worry's and still feed thier kids badly.
I was looking for healthy and cheap insperation, not to start a war against those who can't afford to eat well ..... nor was it supose to make out like i was some kind of food saint im not .. really im not. Hell my kids had Mc Donalds for tea last night im hardly up for mother of the year.
I was just wondering for those of you who could choose who chose healthy over money saving, and can where you drew the line.
Like alot of parents here, i'd rather my child ate badly, but ate than we lost our house. I do realise some people don't have much choice for whatever reason but some people who do have a choice still choose to feed thier family's crap in order to save money. sorry i just don't get that.0 -
And what I am saying is whilst you state that other users don't seem to take into account quality of meals as long as they can keep the cost down, you then readily boast how you can eat 200-300g of PURE protein a day for two adults, whilst also ensuring your children eat a healthy balanced meal for less than £50 a week without struggling. Which based on your previous censure of others meal plans contains:
*not a lot of veg to bulk up the meal
*good fats
*good proteins
*200-300g a day of pure protein for the adults (so lets day 500g a day pure protein combined)
all for £50 a week. What we are asking is please, show us how. Lead by example if you will.Feb GC £41.23/£90

Blah i give up ... people seem determind to twist my post.
I was simply interested on how people cut costs while keeping food healthy and balanced and where people drew the line.
I appologise for any offence, i truely didn't mean to point fingers or critise anyone.
I just think it IS possible to eat well and eat "reasonably" cheaply... a month ago i would have disagreed, and yes thought the help of these boards i've learn't otherwise and for that i am very greatful.
I wasn't trying to have a go at people who can't afford to eat well, because blatently children are better eating crap than not eating at all.
However there are alot of posters who are financially stable enough to find the balance and was wondering were those people drew the line.
Anyway it doens't matter people are gonig to read into my posts whatever they want... theres no point trying to defend myself.
Lead by example what do you want my shopping list/ meal plan and Macro breakdown?? because i can give you that but geeze it will be a long post...0 -

I started a thread on nutrition and it got hijacked too and moved to the discussion forum.
I sometimes think the same as you about the lack of protein and vitamin balance in some meals - usually in the slimmers thread. But most people do not want to be criticised in any way even by implication. Sometimes there does seen to be a save money at any cost feeling on some threads but on others money is no object (I'm thinking of all the equipment). This thread is being merged with the Cheapest evening meal to cheapest wins on this one.
I know Weezl managed to combine nutrition and moneysaving in her threads and these were excellent. It would be great if there were more postings like hers which actually considered the nutrient health aspect when posting recipes and ideas.0 -
I think we need to do an experiment  Actually, I'll do it
But it'll have to wait til next week, when I go shopping.
I'll choose chicken, seeing as chicken has been mentioned here and I'm a HFW fan
I'm sure most people would love to buy organic free range, but some (a few? a lot?) don't because of the price.
So I'll buy cheap and free range chicken, and tell you the £ per lb (I don't do kilos, I refuse, lol) on the packets. I'll weigh them raw then cook them and weigh again, to get a proper comparison. It's all very well listening to celebs banging on about "only a couple of quid extra" but we need real proof of the exact cost. And we won't get that til we actually compare the cooked food. I have a feeling that the price will work out about the same.........Plus it's healthier cos the muscles have been moved properly etc.
Having said that, I'm a fan of a bit of protein, then average carbs and tons of fruit and veg. I only eat meat about twice a week, and I'll up my carbs if I'm riding my bike a lot.

I have done the weekly mealplan thread for over 2 years and TBH there has only ever been ONE posters mealplans that I really did not agree with and i think most will know who I mean:D
I budget about £45-£50pw on food for 2 adults and 14yr dd and we do pretty well. We have all our F&V daily with a mixed diet of essential nutrients.

and board guides are allowed to have opinions too.
I have. I meant 'nutrition' does not seem to be a welcome topic in general - it seems to provoke argument and upset people. People will argue over how much protein, what kind, how much fruit and veg etc.0 -
I'll just have to learn some humility then and learn my place - which isn't here because everything I post gets moved.;)
Hi maltesers,
As far as I can see you had one thread that evolved into a discussion so was moved to the Discussion Time board and another moved to the Site Questions and Suggsestions board when you received no replies and stated yourself that you should post elsewhere. Since then you have made what are in my opinion are repeated jibes at the board guide who moved your threads. I was not around at the time but would have taken the same action as they did.
Board guides are volunteers who give our time to help the boards run smoothly. We are not paid employees and are the same as other posters and are treated as such by the team, so if you wish to make a complaint then please contact the team rather than disrupting threads by making constant digs at us. Board Guides put this in their posts when they're BGing -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com
The rest of the time they're normal people, just like the rest of us.
Not that I think BGs are abnormal. Much.Bulletproof0
