70yr old mortgage

my mortgage ends when i am 70yr old,how can i get this down to 65yr as i can,t afford to pay any more.i took it on in1996??

  • what you could do is over pay each month and it will shrink and be finished before your 70th. Really you should try to get your mortgage reviewed as the rates are great at the minute. Could you post some more details then we would be better able to advise you.

    i didnt think you could have a mortgage if it took you over retirement age unless you could show you had the means to pay it back ie savings or insurance?

    You ask how you can get the payments down and reduce the term, well to give you any kind of meaningfull answer you need to tell us your age now (40 / 63?), the value of your home, the amount you owe, your credit status and the loan size for starters.

    Remortgaging to obntain a better rate would be something to consider.

    Several lenders will lend above age 65, but in any event you are intimating you want it cleared by then so age is not an issue?? CONFUSED
